UberEATS London Pay Rates

You are paid a flat rate for picking up and dropping off orders, as well as a per km fee and per minute fee, less the “Uber Fee”.

During peak times Uber may offer a pay “boost”. This is where UberEATS uses a multiplier to increase your earnings. If an in-demand delivery area advertises a multiplier, ex: 1.5, then your fare is multiplied by 1.5 and increased by 50%. The Uber commission is only applied to your fare, not the boost.

You can accept tips in cash or customers have the option to tip you in the app after the delivery is made.

How Taxes Work

The taxes you will have to pay include CPP (Canadian Pension Plan contributions), Employment Insurance (optional), Federal and Provincial Income tax. You should consult with an accountant who can tell you how much to save from your earnings, especially if you have another job.

You will NOT require an HST number. UberEATS will collect HST from the customer and remit it to the government. If you drive for a living you may want to consult an accountant regarding HST registration. Once you pass a certain amount of income as an independent contractor, you have to charge and remit HST.

UberEATS Insurance Requirements

Uber Eats drivers are on their own for insurance. Only rideshare drivers that transport passengers are covered on delivery trips as well as their regular UberX trips. If you drive one of these services also, then you are covered under their commercial policy.

You are required to maintain your own personal insurance policy though and submit proof to Uber when signing up.

Most insurance companies require you to disclose to them you are using your vehicle for commercial purposes. Before you start driving, you should talk with your insurance company or agent for more information.

What happens if they customer doesn’t answer the door when I arrive?

Contact the customer by phone first. If they don’t answer, a timer will start and after have 5 minutes you can leave and will still get paid the full fare. You can keep the food too!

How do multiple orders work?

Sometimes you will pick up more than one order at the same time from the same restaurant. In this case, everything remains the same except you get a drop-off fee for each location you deliver to. Of course, you will be paid the extra kilometres you drive and the extra time it takes but you will only be paid one pickup fee.
